Felon serving sentence for escaping from custody in Iowa City accused of escaping from custody again

A felon accused of escaping from custody in Iowa City two years ago is accused of escaping from custody again.

According to arrest records, 31-year-old Robert Julin was supposed to arrive at the Iowa City bus station on East Court Street at 10:15 Tuesday morning, He was being transferred from the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility to Hope House in Coralville. But Julin could not be found by a High Risk Officer after the bus arrived. Julin was eventually taken into custody and booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 6:00 that night.

Julin was serving a five-year prison sentence for escaping from custody when he failed to return to Hope House in 2023. He was staying at Hope House on convictions from leading the Iowa State Patrol on a chase on Interstate 80 after stealing a car in downtown Iowa City in 2020.
Julin is charged with Escape From Custody for Tuesday’s incident. If convicted, he faces another possible five years in prison.
