A request for bond reduction has been denied for an Iowa City man accused of paying a minor to perform sex acts on him.

41-year-old Pablo Mejia Aguilar appeared at a bond reduction hearing on Tuesday. Mejia Aguilar’s bond was set at $285,000 earlier this month. At Tuesday’s hearing, Judge Paul Miller denied a request for that to be reduced.

The two allegedly met approximately 13 different times. The reported meetings took place at various locations around Johnson County, including vacant apartments where Mejia Aguilar was doing remodeling.

A police search of the girl’s bedroom reportedly turned up over $1,100 in cash as well as alcohol and marijuana Mejia Aguilar is accused of providing to her.

Mejia Aguilar, who lists his address as a suite in a Dolphin Drive industrial park, faces 13 counts of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse, 13 counts of Prostitution of a Minor, and one count of Drug Distribution to a Minor. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum prison sentence of 220 years.
