Two men arrested for assault at UIHC Monday night

Two men were arrested for assault at the University of Iowa Health Care Hawkins Drive location Monday night.

The first incident was reported just before 8:30, when 55-year-old transient Anthony Upchurch was being transported via ambulance for intoxication. Upchurch allegedly spit on a member of the ambulance crew, stating he wanted to spit in the person’s eyes. During a search incident to Upchurch’s arrest, a pair of glass pipes containing methamphetamine residue was reportedly found on his person.

Just before 11:15 the same night, a UIHC security officer encountered 37-year-old Todd Brodie of Taylor Drive on the main floor of the hospital near Elevator F. Brodie allegedly postured to fight and pushed the officer. He also allegedly showed aggressive behavior and postured when a UI Police officer arrived on the scene.

Upchurch is charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 14 months in jail.

Brodie is charged with Assault and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of 13 months behind bars.
