Former SNL writer and Iowa City native Harper Steele to speak at the Englert Theater

Former Saturday Night Live writer Harper Steele will speak at the Englert Theater next month.

The University of Iowa Lecture Committee has announced that Steele, an Iowa City native and UI graduate, will speak on Monday night, March 10^th at 7:30. The speech will be preceded be a free screening of the documentary “Will and Harper” at the Englert, with doors opening at 4:30, and the screening beginning at 5:15.

“Will and Harper” is a recent Netflix documentary which chronicles Steele’s evolving relationship with longtime collaborator and friend Will Ferrell. The documentary centers around a road trip the two friends take across the United States for the first time since Harper’s transition, and nearly thirty years after they first met on the set of SNL. Several scenes were shot in Iowa City.
