Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont made a stop in Iowa City Saturday, not to campaign for president or to raise funds, but to encourage the crowd to reach out to congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks about a bill that affects the working class.

In front of a packed house at the Englert Theatre, Sanders discussed the Reconciliation bill that the Republican Party is currently trying to pass. He said the bill, which includes a tax cut for the upper 1 percent of Americans, would be paid for by reducing services working families depend on.

Sanders is focusing his travels to districts where Republican US Representatives won recent elections by narrow margins, and called for the crowd to contact Miller-Meeks and encourage her to vote no on the legislation as currently written. He also told the crowd to request Miller-Meeks hold a town hall in Johnson County.

The senator’s  appearance was streamed on YouTube and can be seen there. The phone number and address for Mliler-Meeks, as well as Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst are below.
