Planned Parenthood is calling out the Iowa legislature for a bill that would force elementary school children to watch what it calls “medically inaccurate” videos about fetal development.
SF175 would require Iowa students in grades 4-12 be shown such material. Planned Parenthood says under the guise of depicting actual fetal development, the video presents personal beliefs and medically inaccurate information as scientific fact.
The proposed legislation also scrubs an existing requirement that materials be based on information from medical groups, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Public Health Association, American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Association of School Nurses. And it would delete the requirement that information be free of racial, ethnic, sexual orientation and gender biases.
The measure is one of three bills introduced in the Iowa House and Senate this session that would require students be shown what Planned Parenthood calls “scientifically inaccurate videos”.
