An Iowa City man could spend the rest of his life in prison for allegedly paying a 14-year-old to perform sex acts on him over a dozen times.
41-year-old Pablo Mejia Aguilar was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 10:30 Tuesday night. Iowa City Police say between June 1st and August 31st of last year Mejia Aguilar befriended the girl and began paying her $100 each time she would meet with him and perform sex acts on him. The two allegedly met approximately 13 different times. The reported meetings took place at various locations around Johnson County, including vacant apartments where Mejia Aguilar was doing remodeling.
Investigators say Mejia Aguilar provided the girl with a cellphone so he could set up the meetings. He would then allegedly sneak the girl out of her residence in the middle of the night. Security video reportedly shows Mejia Aguilar near the girl’s home during overnight hours. The girl’s phone allegedly contained photos of her inside Mejia Aguilar’s van as well as a photo of his passport.
A search of the girl’s bedroom reportedly turned up over $1,100 in cash as well as alcohol and marijuana Mejia Aguilar is accused of providing to her.
Mejia Aguilar, who lists his address as a suite in a Dolphin Drive industrial park, now faces 13 counts of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse, 13 counts of Prostitution of a Minor, and one count of Drug Distribution to a Minor. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum prison sentence of 220 years.
