Construction to begin on Court Street Reconstruction Project on Feb. 24, recording of public information meeting available
Work on the Court Street Reconstruction Project is scheduled to begin on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025. The original start date was moved due to adverse weather conditions.
The City hosted a public information meeting on the project on Feb. 11. Those who were unable to attend the meeting can view a recording here or on the Construction Projects homepage.
School crossing
Students traveling to Longfellow Elementary from east of Muscatine Avenue should cross at the intersection of Muscatine Avenue and Seventh Avenue. A crossing guard will be at that intersection through the end of the school year.

Weather permitting, work on the Court Street Reconstruction Project is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025.
Starting Feb. 12, Court Street will be fully closed from Muscatine Avenue to Ridgewood Drive. Eastbound Court Street will also be closed from Ridgewood Drive to South Seventh Avenue. Beginning in approximately one month, Court Street will be fully closed from Muscatine Avenue to South Seventh Avenue. South Seventh Avenue will remain open.
Transit impacts
Beginning Feb. 12, the 2-Court Street bus will begin detouring inbound and outbound.
The outbound detour will be Washington Street to Gilbert Street to Jefferson Street to Glendale Road to Seventh Avenue to Court Street.
The inbound detour will be Court Street to Seventh Avenue to College Street to Dodge Street to Burlington Street.
Outbound stops that will not be able to be serviced by the 2- Court Street include:
- Burlington Street at Johnson Street (Stop 7241) *Still serviced by 9-Towncrest
- Burlington Street at Summit Street (Stop 7247) *Still serviced by 9-Towncrest
- Burlington Street at Muscatine Avenue (Stop 7249) *Still serviced by 9-Towncrest
- Court Street at Seventh Avenue (Stop 7236)
Inbound stops that will not be able to be serviced by the 2-Court Street include:
- Court Street at Muscatine Avenue (Stop 7250) *Still serviced by 9-Towncrest
- Burlington Street at Summit Street (Stop 7248) *Still serviced by 9-Towncrest
- Burlington Street at Lucas Street (Stop 7329) *Still serviced by 9-Towncrest
An outbound temporary stop will be added on 7th Avenue at Court Street on the Northwest corner of the intersection.
Passengers traveling eastbound on Burlington Street are encouraged to use the 9-Towncrest bus.
Upcoming public information meeting
The next Court Street Reconstruction Project public information meeting will take place virtually via Zoom at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025. Those interested in attending the meeting can register here.
About the project
The project will involve the reconstruction of Court Street from Muscatine Avenue to First Avenue. Improvements will include replacing aging street and sidewalk pavement and upgrades to sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water main utilities. Construction is anticipated to finish in Fall 2027.
