North Liberty Police have arrested a Louisa County man on weapons and drug charges after an early Sunday morning traffic stop.

A 2007 Honda Civic being driven by 22-year-old Austin Herlein of Ripley Avenue was stopped for an equipment violation just before 1:45 a.m. near the intersection of Penn Street and Jones Boulevard. An ensuing probable cause search reportedly turned up a marijauan blunt and a firearm inside the vehicle. Herlein allegedly admitted to owning the firearm and to smoking marijuana prior to the stop.

Herlein is charged with Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail.
