A traffic accident in Iowa City’s Northside neighborhood has led to firearm and drunk driving charges against a Coralville man.
The crash was reported just before 2:15 Sunday morning near the intersection of Gilbert and Bloomington Streets. University of Iowa Police say the driver of the 2007 Mitsubishi Galant that rear-ended the other vehicle, 21-year-old Ian Larsen of 22nd Avenue, showed signs of intoxication, admitted to having two drinks at El Ray’s Live and Dive on Iowa Avenue, and provided a breath alcohol level of .132%. Larsen also allegedly admitted to having a loaded Glock in his glove compartment. The firearm also had a round in the chamber.
Larsen is charged with Operating While Intoxicated and Possession of a Weapon While Intoxicated. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
