An Iowa City man faces additional charges after an alleged assault on Johnson County deputies at the jail.

22-year-old Carter O’Donnell-Heifner was being booked into the jail at around 1:30am Saturday on an unknown charge. When changing into a jail uniform, he allegedly stormed out of the changing room and had to be physically restrained.  As he was being escorted to a holding cell, O’Donnell-Heifner reportedly turned on deputies. He reportedly punched a sergeant in the jaw and caused a deputy to land on a door jamb in his right shoulder.  Both sustained minor injury.

O’Donnell-Heifner faces charges of Interference with Official Acts causing bodily injury and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
