A sex offender found living at an Iowa City homeless shelter faces a pair of registry violations for allegedly lying about his address and creating social media accounts without informing authorities.

Iowa City Police arrested 44-year-old Bryant Williams on January 15th for Driving While Revoked near the intersection of Bradford Drive and Louise Street. Williams allegedly told the arresting officer that he had been staying at the city’s wet shelter, although a review of his sex offender registration showed he had reported moving to Harvey, Illinois on December 17th. The Iowa Sex Offender Registry lists Williams’ address as Chicago.

A search warrant conducted on Williams’ phone reportedly showed he had left Iowa City on December 18th and returned on January 6th. The Henry, Illinois Police Department later confirmed that Williams had tried to move there, but the property was too close to a daycare.

Williams’ phone was also logged in to multiple social media accounts that were not reported to law enforcement, including on Facebook, iCloud, Snapchat, and TextNow.

Williams was convicted of Indecent Contact With a Child in Johnson County in 2015. The victim is listed as a girl under the age of 14.

Williams is charged with a pair of 2nd Offense Sex Offender Registry Violations. If convicted on both counts, he faces up to ten years in prison.
