A disturbance at a Tiffin bar led to a police chase late Thursday night.
Johnson County deputies were called to Back Berner on Marengo Road just before 10:00 for a report of a fight involving a knife and a pool stick. As deputies were arriving, 36-year-old Nicholas Zybarth of the Clear Creek manufactured housing community allegedly fled in his 2021 Nissan Rogue. An eight-minute high-speed pursuit ensued, ending on Hawkeye Drive in Oxford.
Zybarth reportedly showed signs of intoxication and provided a breath alcohol level over the legal limit for driving. He was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense and Felony Eluding. Charges of Disorderly Conduct and 4th Degree Criminal Mischief were added after witnesses at Back Berner told investigators that Zybarth had been involved in the altercation, threw a full beer can at an exit sign, and damaged a door when he slammed it behind him.
If convicted on all counts, Zybarth faces a maximum of over eight years in prison.
