North Liberty firefighters rescued a driver who had driven into Goose Lake Pond Thursday night.
According to a news release from the North Liberty Fire Department, rescuers were dispatched at 8:08 p.m. for a report of a partially-submerged vehicle. North Liberty police officers arrived at the pond west of Goose Lake Circle to find a vehicle had gone through the ice and its driver was still inside. The first arriving firefighters donned ice rescue suits and made contact with the driver, whose condition didn’t favor the ability to self-extricate. Firefighters assisted the driver from the vehicle and then transported him to safety via inflatable boat. Once on-shore, the patient was transferred to a Johnson County Ambulance for treatment and transport. The patient was removed from the pond within 15 minutes after first responders arrived, and crews were on the scene for approximately 90 minutes.
