The Domestic Violence Intervention Program and Rape Victim Advocacy Program has issued a statement in light of the recent federal funding freeze President Donald Trump has put into place.
While the January 28th executive order signed by Trump is being debated in the courts, the DVIP/RVAP says it will remain open and continue to provide life-saving services to victim-survivors of domestic and sexual violence. In a news release, the group says if the funding freeze is restored, it will significantly impact both organizations.
56% of the DVIP/RVAP budget is from federal grant funds.
The freeze would also impact all domestic violence and sexual assault services across Iowa, as those programs are typically 70-95% federally funded.
While the DVIP/RVAP has reserves and cash flow that will support it for 3-4 months during a potential freeze, that will not be the case for other victim programs and other community partners that rely on federal funding.
DVIP/RVAP officials say they are prepping for increased requests for supplies, financial aid, and emergency shelter.
