Allegedly calling the protected party in a no-contact order to ask for bail has led to an Iowa City woman’s arrest.
Police took 47-year-old Tosha Aurthur of Ellis Avenue into custody on a theft charge last Saturday afternoon at the Coralville Walmart. While in the back seat of the patrol car, she called another subject to bail her out of jail. Coralville Police say that subject was the protected party in a no-contact order against Aurthur.
Investigators say when asked, Aurthur admitted that she was calling the protected party. But Aurthur reportedly claimed the other person had gone to the Johnson County courthouse to have the order lifted. A check of the order showed it was still valid.
Once at the Coralville Police Department Aurthur allegedly admitted to living with the protected party for the last couple of months.
Aurthur is charged with 5th Degree Theft and a violation of a protective order. If convicted, she faces up to 30 days in jail.
