An early Monday morning police standoff has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man.
According to arrest records, 46-year-old Justin Halter fled the scene of a domestic incident in his vehicle. Police began a pursuit on Flatiron Avenue, with Halter allegedly refusing to pull over for lights and sirens. He reportedly went through stop signs and a yard during the pursuit. Halter eventually returned to a residence on Grant Wood Drive, where an hour-long standoff began just after 1:15 a.m. as police say Halter refused to exit his 2001 Dodge Dakota. Halter lists the address as his in arrest records, but the owner of the house contacted KCJJ to say Halter’s girlfriend actually lives there.
Halter was eventually arrested and charged with Eluding and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
