Johnson County deputies responding to a rollover accident near Sutliff arrested the driver for drunk driving late Thursday night.
The accident near the intersection of 160th Street and Utah Avenue was reported by the driver just after 10:30 p.m. 37-year-old Matthew Drapach-Noles allegedly told arriving deputies that he was heading home to North Liberty from Iowa City when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer and rolled his 2020 Ford Ranger. Arrest records list Drapach-Noles as a resident of Solon.
Investigators say Drapach-Noles smelled of ingested alcohol, showed signs of intoxication, and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. His breath alcohol level was measured at .138% on a portable Breathalyzer test and .116% on a Datamaster. An open bottle of alcohol was found on the roadway where Drapach-Noles entered the ditch before rolling his vehicle.
Drapach-Noles is charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
