North Liberty Police say an assault suspect resisted arrest, then assaulted an employee at the Johnson County Jail.

According to arrest records, just after 4:15 Monday afternoon 36-year-old Jamal Holmes punched another person, pulled their hair and grabbed them around the neck inside their car while it was on Diamond Boulevard near the Kwik Star and Kum & Go just west of Interstate 380.  Arriving North Liberty Police officers say Holmes showed signs of intoxication, refused breath testing, and resisted arrest. Holmes reportedly tried to break free of his handcuffs, kicked a squad car multiple times, and refused commands. Once at the Johnson County Jail, he allegedly spit on a uniformed deputy.

Holmes, who lists addresses on both Thistle Court in Iowa City and in Council Bluffs, is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury, Public Intoxication, Interference With Official Acts, and Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over six years in prison.
