West Liberty Police have released information about a death investigation that began in late summer.

The Muscatine Journal reports that around 11:40pm on September 5th, a family member discovered Susan FIttro with a single gunshot wound. Lifesaving measures were employed, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation determined that the assailant had fled West Liberty after intentionally shooting FIttro to death.  A suspect was developed, and West Liberty Police reported there was no danger to the public. The identity of the suspect was withheld as detectives continued their investigation.

It was later determined that the suspect was Brady Grimm, the son of FIttro’s deceased boyfriend Scott Grimm. He was known to Mount Pleasant police after a domestic violence incident at his home. Later that day, at about 5:53 pm, he then reportedly shot and killed Fittro at her residence.  He was back at his home by 6:30pm, and fled from police who were investigating the earlier domestic violence incident.

Police say Grimm began shooting at them during a pursuit before he lost control and crashed his vehicle. Grimm was discovered dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Last week, West Liberty Police Chief Josh Houser thanked DCI agents, West Liberty Fire and EMS, the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, and the people of West Liberty who came forward with information that assisted in the investigation.
