Officials with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services say flu cases are on the rise across the state.

Dozens of schools are also seeing 10 percent or more of their students out for illnesses.

KCRG TV reports in the past week, 73 schools reported 10 percent or more students missing for illness. That includes schools in Linn, Dubuque, Jones and Delaware Counties. Iowa saw only 11 schools fall into this category the previous week.

The department said the sicknesses include norovirus, influenza A, strep throat, pneumonia and other infectious diseases.

Overall flu activity in Iowa remains at the moderate level. The age group seeing the most cases of flu is 5 to 24 years of age. RSV cases also increased in the last week in Iowa to about 11 percent of tests coming back positive. Covid-19 activity remains low with positive tests decreasing from 9 to 6 percent.
