An Iowa City man will spend six years in federal prison after being sentenced for receiving child pornography.
Court documents indicate the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip that a social media account associated with 62-year-old Christopher Carpenter, received files containing child sexual abuse material.
A seizure of electronic and storage devices in Carpenter’s possession showed that Carpenter had been receiving images and videos containing child sexual abuse material since 2001.
Carpenter’s sentence was handed down Friday. He must also pay $3000 in victim restitution and seve five years of supervised release following his prison term.
The Gazette reports the case was investigated by the University of Iowa Police Department and the case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice.
