An immigrant advocacy organization says they received 30 to 40 calls earlier this week claiming that they’ve seen Immigration and Customs Enforcement vehicles in the area.

Alejandra Escobar with Escucha Mi Voz (Listen to My Voice) told KCRG TV that people saw the ICE vehicles at Amazon in Iowa Ctiy, the IHOP in Coralville, and Latino store Acapulco. She said people in the community are ready to fight policies that harm immigrants, but are still fearful. She said anyone who is stopped on the street shouldn’t run or they might be shot and killed.

Johnson County Sheriff Brad Kunkel told the TV station he’s aware of the social media posts about ICE being in the area, but has not been contacted by the federal government.

Escucha Mi Voz is holding a “know your rights” seminar Sunday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City starting at 3pm.
