A Coralville man was arrested overnight after allegedly causing issues at a downtown Iowa City convenience store.
According to the police report, 36-year-old Robert Gatewood of 5th Street had multiple calls on him throughout the night for being drunk and attempting to cause fights at the Kum & Go on East Burlington Street. Upon contact, he was reportedly observed with bloodshot watery eyes, impaired speech and smelled of ingested alcohol.
Gatewood allegedly brought an open container of alcohol in the store and had another sealed one on him. He also reportedly refused to identify himself when required to do so.
Gatewood was arrested and allegedly threatened to punch the officer in the mouth. He refused a post-arrest PBT. While waiting at the jail, he reportedly threatened to kill the officer, “whack” him and bury him when he got out of handcuffs.
Gatewood was charged with 1st degree Harassment, Public Intoxication, and Harassment of a Public Official. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 26 months in jail.
