Iowa City woman accused of making over $1,200 in transactions with stolen debit card

Iowa City Police have arrested a woman they say ran up over $1,200 in charges on a stolen debit card.

35-year-old Tamira Johnson of the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 11:45 Thursday morning. According to arrest records, on November 1st Johnson made three different transactions with the stolen card.

Investigators say Johnson was captured on video using the card to withdraw $400 from the Hills Bank ATM on Muscatine Avenue, withdraw $500 from the Green State ATM on Muscatine Avenue, and make over $380 in purchases at the Oriental and African Market on Highway 6 East.

Johnson allegedly admitted to having the card in her possession, but denied using it. She’s charged with 3rd Degree Theft. If convicted, she faces a maximum of two years in jail.
