Another local media organization is scaling back its news coverage.

Allen Media, which owns KWWL Channel 7, announced to its employees earlier this week that as of this Sunday it would be ending its weekend morning and early evening newscasts at the Waterloo-based station as well as stations in Mason City and Rockford, Illinois.

The company also recently announced it would be “hubbing” the news in those three markets, meaning news broadcasts for the three stations would emanate from one location.

Allen wrote in its memo that the changes are “part of an ongoing effort to streamline our programming and adapt.”

The announcement comes the same week as the Cedar Rapids Gazette announced it would be scaling back to only publishing physical newspapers on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The next day, the Press-Citizen announced it would begin delivering its newspapers via mail. Both changes are set to begin on February 17th.
