A Davenport man faces charges after scuffling with police during a reckless driving investigation.

Police stopped 20-year-old Cortez Brown on the 100 block of South Dubuque Street just before 3am Sunday because he matched the description of a male who was reportedly driving recklessly.

Brown was approached by officers, and allegedly refused to comply with commands.  He then reportedly started to reach at and touch officers, prompting them to try to put him into handcuffs.  Brown then allegedly began screaming, pulling away from officers, and lunging his head toward officers.

He was taken to the ground, and he reportedly continued resistive behavior.  Brown kept pushing away from the squad car, where officers placed him as they unlocked the vehicle. He then had to be pushed into the vehicle.

Brown allegedly complained of injuries and demanded to be taken to a hospital. He was checked out, but it was determined his injuries were superficial and not life-threatening.

Police say Brown had bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of ingested alcohol. He was also wearing bar wristbands.  A post-arrest PBT was refused, and a search of his person reportedly turned up a fictitious Indiana driver’s license making him appear to be 21.

Brown was charged with Public Intoxication, Interference with Official Acts, and Possession of a fictitious ID. He could be sentenced to over two years in jail if convicted on the charges.
