A Cedar Rapids man was arrested after an investigation determined he used a credit card stolen from a Waterloo home health care patient at an Iowa City retail store.

Iowa City police were dispatched to Almost Paradise Tobacco and Vapor on South Linn Street on August 18th last year to assist the Wapello County Sheriff’s office in a credit card fraud case.  An elderly Waterloo woman reportedly had her bank card and other items stolen from her residence by a home health care worker. The card was subsequently used by 21-year-old Aaron Solis, who is the roommate of the home health care worker.  Solis purchased an item at the establishment without the victim’s permission or knowledge.

The transaction was reportedly recorded on store surveillance video.

A warrant was issued for Solis’ arrest on November 1st; he was arrested Monday and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card, an aggravated misdemeanor that comes with a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.

Solis was released on his own recognizance ahead of arraignment.
