A Texas man was arrested Sunday in Indianapolis after allegedly stalking former University of Iowa and current Indiana Fever player Caitlin Clark.

Reports from KWWL TV and ABC News say Marion County Indiana prosecutors charged 55- year-old Michael Lewis with stalking and reportedly sending numerous threats and sexually explicit messages to Clark on social media.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office became aware of Lewis’ behavior earlier this month, and learned that he allegedly sent numerous sexually explicit messages over X between December 16th and January 2nd. Investigators determined the most recent messages were sent from an IP address at an Indianapolis hotel, and conducted a welfare check on Lewis January 8th; he claimed he was in the city on vacation from Denton, Texas.

Police confronted Lewis about the threatening posts, which he reportedly said were a “joke” and a “fantasy-type thing.”  He was told to stop the posts but the criminal complaint claims Lewis continued to post to Clark on X.

Clark was interviewed by Indianapolis Police on Saturday and said that Lewis’ presence in Indianapolis made her fear for her safety, causing her to make changes to her public appearances and patterns of movement after learning about him.

Clark told investigators that she doesn’t know Lewis and never responded to his messages or posts. A no-contact order was granted, as was an order for Lewis  to stay away from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where the Fever play their home games, and Butler University, where her boyfriend Connor McCaffrey is an assistant coach.

Lewis is in the Marion County detention center, ahead of a Tuesday court date. In Indiana, stalking is a Level 5 Felony which carries a maximum sentence of six years and a fine of up to $10,000.
