The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating reports of counterfeit $100 bills being used at four different locations.

According to dispatch records, the sheriff’s office received three calls about bogus bills in the span of one hour Thursday night.

The first call about a fake $100 bill came in at 7:45 from a food truck parked outside the Dollar General in Kalona. At 8:33, the Dollar General in Washington reported someone using a fake $100 bill to purchase multiple items there. The final call came at 8:44, when a caller claimed a subject had tried and failed to pass counterfeit $100 bills at the Dollar Generals in Kalona and Brighton.

Friday afternoon, Czech Village Antiques in Cedar Rapids posted on Facebook that two young women had used a fake $100 bill there. A later comment from the business indicated the women had passed the bill unknowingly. There is no indication if the Czech Village case can be tied to the Washington County reports.
