A North Liberty man was taken into custody after investigators alleged he committed a series of thefts so he could sell items for drug money.
Police reports indicate the incidents all took place on October 7th. 35-year-old Andrew Mask of South Park Ridge Road and an unnamed suspect took a toolbox from an individual on South Riverside Drive valued at $100. The two then went to an apartment building on Newton Road and allegedly took several DeWalt tools valued at $1200, and an IPhone valued at around $500.
Another theft was reportedly committed on the 2800 block of Rohret Road, where Mask and the other suspect took several Milwaukee Packout boxes secured to a work truck and containing several items valued at approximately $2900.
Police executed a search warrant at Mask’s residence and recovered many, but not all, of the allegedly stolen items. The other suspect was on scene and wearing a backpack that belonged to Mask. Inside the backpack were several hand and power tools they admitted they took in the event they needed them to commit a burglary.
Mask’s troubles with the law continued on October 8th, when he was stopped on I380 at the 2 mile marker and a subsequent search warrant turned up personal use amounts of methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl as well as drug paraphernalia.
A warrant for Mask’s arrest was issued on December 30th; he was booked into the Johnson County Jail at around 1:30am Monday. He has been charged with 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th degree Theft, Possession of Burglar’s Tools, and a Controlled Substance violation. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over 11 years in prison.
