An area transient was arrested after she allegedly tried to steal copper from the roof of an Iowa City building.
According to police, 35-year-old Michelle Hudson was observed on the roof of the Pearson building on 2510 North Dodge Street at approximately 8:23 pm Sunday. Witnesses reportedly saw her carrying copper away from the building before throwing it to escape. They also identified the vehicle Hudson was operating, a 1999 Honda Accord.
Officers confronted Hudson, who was allegedly operating the vehicle before parking and getting in the passenger seat. She reportedly admitted to being on the roof of the building without authorization. Hudson’s driving record check showed her as being barred as an habitual offender until September 2026.
She faces a 2nd degree Burglary charge, as well as Driving While Barred and Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Responsibility. If convicted on all counts, Hudson could be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison.
