A Coralville man is accused of assaulting and threatening his domestic partner and a juvenile while wielding a knife.
Johnson County deputies were called to an address on Center Street in Oxford just after 3:15 Saturday morning. Witnesses say 32-year-old David Chomycia of 14th Avenue assaulted a pregnant woman with whom he has resided and been in a domestic relationship for the last year, as well as a juvenile. Chomycia was reportedly wielding a knife at the time of the assault, and he allegedly threatened to kill his domestic partner.
Investigators say at one point during the altercation, Chomycia threw the woman’s phone to the ground, causing it to break. The phone is valued at $1,500.
Chomycia is charged with Domestic Assault of a Pregnant Person While Using or Displaying a Weapon, Child Endangerment Causing Bodily Injury, 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree Harassment, and Assault. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over 17 years in prison.
