Area law enforcement officers were busy on New Year’s Eve, and arrested several for Operating While Intoxicated.

One of the arrests involved 34-year-old Jeremy Williams of Milwaukee Wisconsin. At around 9:30pm Tuesday, North Liberty Police pulled him over for a reported equipment violation near Highway 965 and Hawkeye Drive.  Upon contact, an odor of ingested alcohol was observed emanating from the vehicle. An empty alcoholic beverage container was reportedly seen in the rear of the vehicle.

Williams reportedly had slow slurred speech and bloodshot watery eyes. When he was patted down, a small unopened bottle of alcohol was located in his pocket.

The arrest report says Williams failed all field tests and submitted to a Datamaster test that showed his breath-alcohol level at .261 percent, over three times the legal limit.

He was charged with his first OWI, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to a year if convicted.
