An Iowa City man faces charges after reportedly assaulting a man at his residence multiple times, then fighting with police.

The victim of the alleged assaults told police Saturday night that he was downstairs in the Mormon Trek Boulevard residence of 50-year-old Christopher Gingerich. Repeatedly throughout the evening, Gingerich allegedly would come downstairs and punch the man in various places on his head repeatedly.

When the victim was upstairs sitting at a table, Gingerich reportedly placed both hands around his neck and impeded his airflow for up to 20 seconds.  The man alleged that Gingerich was intoxicated during each incident.

Arriving officers found Gingerich outside the residence; he headed inside despite commands for him to stop. When an officer grabbed him to keep from getting inside the residence, Gingerich slapped his hand away and had fought with officers who get him handcuffed.

Gingerich was charged with Domestic Assault impeding Airflow, Domestic Abuse Assault and Interference with official acts. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 26 months in jail.
