Highway 151 in Amana was shut down for about three hours Thursday morning after a semi hit a train.
Iowa County deputies were dispatched to the accident scene just after 9 a.m. An investigation determined that the driver of a southbound semi failed to stop at a railroad crossing as a train approached from the west. The semi sideswiped a truck that had stopped for the flashing lights at the crossing before the 2007 Kenworth continued into the train itself.
The driver of the semi, identified as 19-year-old Jackson Von Ashen of South Amana, was charged with Failure to Stop at an Active Railroad Crossing.
The train sustained an estimated $2,000 in damage. The semi was totaled, and the pickup truck sustained unspecified damages. There were no reported injuries.
Until about noon, traffic was rerouted around the accident scene by using Highway 220.
