A registered sex offender is back behind bars after a drunken incident at University of Iowa Health Care.

UI Police were called to the emergency department of the Hawkins Drive facility just before 3:45 last Friday morning for a “highly intoxicated” subject who was being aggressive and belligerent with hospital staff. Upon officers’ arrival, 28-year-old Anthony Kapayou showed signs of intoxication and refused breath testing. He was arrested for Public Intoxication, and was sentenced to one day in jail and fined $105.

Kapayou remained in the Johnson County Jail as of Thursday morning on a probation violation. In 2015, the Hope House resident was convicted of Assault With Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse against a boy under the age of 14 in Tama County. Kapayou remains on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry, and he’s currently facing an Absence From Custody charge after reportedly absconding from Hope House last month.  He also has a previous sex offender registry conviction from last August that led to a five-year suspended sentence.
