Iowa City Police have arrested a man they say broke his girlfriend’s phone and shattered the rear window of her car on Christmas Eve.

Officers were called to the Pondview Court residence of 38-year-old Samuel Allen just after 4:30 Tuesday afternoon. Witnesses say Allen smashed his girlfriend’s phone and shattered the rear window on her vehicle. Police report he later admitted to smashing out the window.

Allen is charged with 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.

Allen was fined $430 on a 2022 charge of Person Ineligible to Carry Weapons after he was reportedly found in possession of a Smith & Wesson M&P pistol, approximately two grams of marijuana and an open container of alcohol during a traffic stop on Cross Park Avenue. A drug charge was dismissed in a plea deal with prosecutors.
