A Coralville man is accused of a Christmas Eve assault.

Coralville Police were called to the 2400 block of 2nd Street and the parking lot of the Verizon Wireless store just after 11:30 Tuesday night. Witnesses say 29-year-old Lamon Lewis of 6th Avenue hit another subject in the face multiple times with his hands until the man was able to separate himself from Lewis and call 9-1-1. The man reported experiencing pain and had red spots on his face.

Police say Lewis showed signs of intoxication, and two open containers of alcohol were found on or near his property.

Lewis is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
