More details have been released about the arrest of a Quad Cities man wanted for leading Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase along Interstate 380.
35-year-old Brent Paulsen of Davenport was taken into custody early Saturday morning at the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort. A caller to Washington County dispatch reported just before 1 a.m. that there was a “heavily intoxicated” male who was refusing to go back to his room. The subject…later identified as Paulsen…was arrested for Public Intoxication and Interference With Official Acts.
Paulsen had an active warrant out of Johnson County for his alleged part in a police chase last week. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says a traffic stop was attempted on a 2014 Jeep Compass being driven by Paulsen on I-380 northbound just before 6:45 last Wednesday night. Pursuing deputies say the vehicle was swerving all over the roadway and striking barriers. It was also reportedly speeding up, slowing down, and even stopping in the middle of the roadway. Paulsen ultimately drove into the median.
The sheriff’s office says deputies had to break the windows and remove Paulsen from the vehicle. An empty bottle of vodka was found inside the car, and Paulsen allegedly showed signs of intoxication. His breath alcohol level was measured at .184%.
Deputies say Paulsen has a previous drunk driving conviction out of Geneseo, Illinois, and he was found in possession of Vardenafil for which he has no prescription.
Paulsen was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 11:00 Monday morning and charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense, Eluding, Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Drug, Interference With Official Acts and various traffic offenses. If convicted on all criminal charges against him, he faces a maximum of four years in jail.
