An Iowa City man was arrested over the weekend after an alleged assault on his nephew and a woman.

Police were called to the 2100 block of Scott Boulevard at approximately 2:50 Saturday on reports of an assault. Upon arrival, they met with the nephew of the alleged attacker. He told officers that 29-year-old Miguel Borjas-Torres had attacked his mother and himself.  The nephew allegedly had injuries to his left hand.

The mother said she was assaulted by Borjas-Torres and had also had injuries to her left hand.

Police talked to Borjas-Torres, who reportedly admitted an altercation had taken place but claimed he was the victim. Based on the accounts of the two injured parties and the fact that Borjas-Torres appeared to be intoxicated, he was arrested as the primary aggressor.

Both victims stated that they were fearful of future assaults and requested a no-contact order be issued.

Borjas-Torres was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury, and could be sentenced to up to a year in jail if convicted.
