A Jasper County man is accused of vandalizing multiple Johnson County ambulances.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says just before 3:00 Saturday morning staff at the Johnson County Ambulance Service on South Dubuque Street heard a panic horn go off on one of its ambulances parked across the street at the Johnson County Health and Human Services Building parking ramp. A check of the ambulances showed one had been broken into and rifled through, with damage to the trim on a cabinet. A second ambulance had its front windshield crushed in. 20-year-old William Oelmann of Prairie City was allegedly found locked inside a third ambulance with blood on his hands consistent with a glass injury. The cost to repair the damage, replace the windshield and clean the blood and glass out of the vehicles is expected to be in excess of $1,500.

Deputies say Oelmann showed signs of intoxication, had an “overall confused disposition”, and provided a breath alcohol level of .154%. He’s charged with 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of over five years in prison.
