An Iowa City man has been arrested after an investigation determined he was dealing crack cocaine.

According to the criminal complaints, 30-year-old Derrick Ford of Wayne Avenue was observed on two separate occasions, possessing and delivering 3.5 grams of crack cocaine for sale.  The packages, which were delivered on December 19 2023 and February 8th of this year at the Town and Campus Apartments on Arthur Street, were sent to a lab for testing and came back positive for crack cocaine.

A warrant for Ford’s arrest was issued on December 6th; he was taken into custody Monday morning. Ford faces two Class C Controlled Substance violations and could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison if convicted on both charges.

Ford was also wanted for an incident in September when he allegedly was upset over an unpaid debt and went to the mother demanding that she pay on her daughter’s behalf.  After she refused, Ford reportedly went to the woman’s car and started throwing rocks and kicking it. His actions caused a large dent to the driver’s side front door and broke out the driver side window. It was estimated to cost $1000 to repair the damage.

Ford was charged with 3rd degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor.
