Iowa City Police say a Cedar Rapids man held a woman against her will in an Iowa City hotel room earlier this year.
35-year-old Justin Short of Fruitwood Lane NW was charged on Friday with False Imprisonment, Assault Causing Bodily Injury, and Interference With Official Acts. According to arrest records, Short was staying with the woman at Hotel Vetro on the night of October 22nd when he refused her requests to leave. She was eventually able to escape the hotel room and make it to a truck parked in the nearby Dubuque Street parking ramp. However, before she could leave, the woman was allegedly pulled out of the truck by Short, leaving her with an abrasion on her elbow. She also suffered a cut lip from an alleged assault by Short. The incident in the parking garage was reported by witnesses.
An officer reports finding the woman still on the ground when he arrived at the truck. Short allegedly tried to escape by getting into another vehicle before fleeing on foot. He was quickly captured, and reportedly showed signs of intoxication.
Short is charged with False Imprisonment, Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
