A Coralville man is accused of resisting and assaulting Iowa City Police officers, including one injury.

Police say 21-year-old Gavin Crees of 6th Street had been involved in a disturbance sometime Friday night, and had a previous warrant for his arrest for skipping his arraignment on a Possession of a Controlled Substance charge last month. He reportedly called 9-1-1 from his cellphone while on the 300 block of Benton Street just after 7:00 Friday night and could be heard yelling. An officer located him near Benton Street and Maiden Lane, where he was told to stop. Police say instead, he took off running westbound and eventually had to be tackled to the ground.
Crees allegedly continued resisting, with one officer injuring his hand in the process. He also reportedly spit on an officer.

Police say as he was being walked to a squad car, Crees pulled his arms forward and to the side, swinging one officer into the side of the squad car. Crees reportedly showed signs of intoxication and refused breath testing.

Crees is charged with Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury, Public Intoxication, and two counts of Assault on a Peace Officer. If convicted on all charges, including the previous drug charge, Crees faces a maximum of over four years in jail.
