A traffic stop in North Liberty early Friday morning has led to a Georgia woman facing drug and weapon charges.
Police say 33-year-old Berosha Kelley of Atlanta was westbound on Penn Street near Jones Boulevard just before 12:25 am when she allegedly failed to obey the traffic control device at the intersection. A traffic stop was initiated, and the officer reportedly detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A probable cause search allegedly turned up several baggies of marijuana, along with a grinder. A 9mm handgun was also discovered.
When told she was under arrest, Kelley attempted to walk past officers and physically resisted as they attempted to handcuff her.
Kelley was charged with Marijuana Possession, Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to a maximum 25 months in jail.
