The Johnson County Board of Supervisors passed an “All Are Welcome” resolution Thursday in conjunction with a local organization fighting religious discrimination.
The Press-Citizen reports the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa issued a release saying “religious discrimination will not prevail in our state” and called the Religious Freedom Restoration Act signed into law by Governor Kim Reynolds this past April the “primary impetus” behind the Interfaith Alliance’s drive to introduce the All Are Welcome resolution.
The group claims the new Iowa law is one reason why many residents are leaving the state. Interfaith Alliance Director Connie Ryan said it elevates one person’s religious freedom above the civil rights of others and is justification for discrimination.
Ryan hopes to pass the “All Are Welcome” resolution in all 99 Iowa counties.
