A North Liberty woman was arrested Sunday night after leaving the scene of an accident she allegedly caused while intoxicated.

Officers responded to the incident, which occurred near the Marilyn Drive residence of 34-year-old Ariel Sly.  The victim’s parked vehicle sustained heavy back-end damage and an alcoholic beverage box was next to the victim’s vehicle which they said hadn’t been there before the accident.

Sly’s vehicle was observed in the driveway of her residence with significant front-end damage. Upon contact, she was observed with unsteady balance, slurred speech, and bloodshot watery eyes.  Sly allegedly admitted to driving and hitting the victim’s parked vehicle.  She showed measurable impairment on field sobriety tests and provided a PBT showing her breath-alcohol level at .243 percent. A subsequent Datamaster test was reportedly refused.

Sly’s three-year-old daughter was in the backseat when the accident occurred, and she complained of neck pain when she turned her head.  The girl was checked out by first responders as a precaution.

Sly was taken into custody and charged with second offense OWI and Child Endangerment causing Injury. If convicted on both counts, she could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.
