Iowa City names O’Brien as Deputy City Manager

Chris O'Brien, Deputy City ManagerThe City of Iowa City has hired Chris O’Brien as Deputy City Manager.

O’Brien began his new role on Tuesday, Nov. 12, returning to the City after spending the last seven years in the private sector with Evora Energy where he held the position of Chief Operating Officer. He was previously employed with the City of Iowa City from 1997-2017, culminating with the position of Transportation and Resource Management Director.

O’Brien holds a master’s degree in business from the University of Iowa and brings an extensive background in municipal and operations management.

With his extensive operations experience and strong ties to the community, he is a tremendous asset,” said City Manager Geoff Fruin. “I am confident that he will quickly make an impact and play a vital role in helping us deliver exceptional public service while advancing the strategic goals set by our Council.”
