An armed Quad Cities man has been arrested on weapons and drug charges in Coralville.
Coralville Police say 19-year-old Braulio Hernandez of Davenport was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a drunk driving investigation near the intersection of 1st Avenue and 7th Street just after 12:45 Monday morning. A plastic bag containing 32 ounces of marijuana was allegedly found on the floorboard where Hernandez was sitting.
Hernandez reportedly told investigators that he and the driver had ingested marijuana. Police say he then fled from the vehicle and ignored their orders to stop. He was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.
Hernandez was allegedly found in possession of a loaded firearm, and his breath alcohol level was measured at .147%.
The other passengers told police the marijuana found inside the vehicle belonged to Hernandez.
Hernandez is charged with Interference With Official Acts Involving a Firearm, Interference With Official Acts, Possession or Carrying of Weapons While Intoxicated, Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, and Possession of Marijuana. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over eight years in prison.
